BELOIT

Toni VanderHayden said she fell in love with the building at 903 E. Grand Ave. the first time she saw it.

Now, after a lot of renovation work, while still retaining the “mid-century vibe” of the building, she has made it the headquarters for her business — Keller Williams Realty Signature.

The building, which was built in 1956, formerly was home to Emmanuel Florist, which was operated for about 40 years by Lilly Dickinson.

VanderHayden said she first saw the building about 25 years ago and loved the atmosphere and old-time charm.

VanderHayden has owned Keller Williams Realty Signature since 2008 and she, and partner Ken Redeker, have offices in Janesville in Wisconsin and Loves Park and Galena in Illinois. When they were looking for a Beloit location, they thought of the building at the corner of Grand and Park avenues.

VanderHayden approached Dickinson about the building.

“I asked if she ever considered selling it, and she said yes, but she wasn’t done working yet,” VanderHayden recalled.

So, Dickinson will be working part-time for VanderHayden at the front desk, greeting clients who come in to the building.

A grand opening for the building is set for Aug. 20 from 4 — 6:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting will be held at 4 p.m. and live music will be provided by Carson Hall.

While renovating the building, the new owners wanted to preserve some of the features, such as the Terrazzo tile floors and the natural light from the many windows.

Some things were added as well. Two conference rooms were added on the ground floor and a stairway was added. On the second floor, nine office spaces were created. Two offices are available for rent.

There also is an office for VanderHayden’s other business — Signature Living Home Construction.

There also was a secured exit created from the second floor.

Angus Young was the architect firm which planned the renovation.

VanderHayden and Redeker are looking forward to show off the newly renovated building at the open house on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
