JANESVILLE

As the Janesville City Council prepares to talk more next week about south-side renewal and long-term planning, the city’s economic development director said Tuesday that a couple of developers are eyeing projects at the former General Motors site.

The next Janesville City Council meeting is at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, at City Hall, 18 N. Jackson St.

Jimsi Kuborn said Tuesday she could not disclose more information on those developers, nor the projects being considered.

“The specific projects are in their feasibility stage within the district,” Kuborn said. “There will be possible TIF incentives if everything moves forward.”

In March, The Gazette reported on a possible creation of a new TIF district to allow the city to use tax incentives to reimburse up to $13.7 million in infrastructure costs incurred as part of private redevelopment of the property, currently owned by Commercial Development Company.

Kuborn said a TIF would help spur development at the former GM site. She also said discussions are farther than they were earlier in the year.
