Government funding for the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center may not be a done deal yet, but line item vetoes in the Governor’s biennial budget are leaving the door open.
Representative Sue Conley of Janesville says the Governor removed the $4 million cap restriction on projects as well as the requirement that the Joint Finance Committee needs to approve the funding.
Conley says $50 million in grants are still available through the Building Commission, so those behind the project will need to put together a grant application which highlights why the project benefits the entire state, not just the local area.
Evers signed the 2023-2025 biennial budget Wednesday.
