With the grand opening of its new headquarters in Milton approaching next month, KANDU Industries’ plan for a pavilion on the property is in the works.
The structure is being made possible through joint grant funding from the Janesville Noon Rotary Club, Janesville Morning Rotary Club, Edgerton Rotary Club and Beloit Rotary Club.
KANDU expects to get about $30,000, Kandu Executive Director Kathy Hansen said. She said the donations by the four Rotary Clubs will be matched by the four clubs’ regional district, District 6250, which covers much of southern and central Wisconsin.
Mitch Gaver, past president of the Janesville Morning Rotary Club, said Rotary has long supported KANDU because of its great mission and the clients it serves.
KANDU is a nonprofit that offers job training and placement, care services and living skills instruction to those with developmental disabilities.
“This project was a great fit for our goals in Rotary as well as a significant need for KANDU and their clients that was identified,” Gaver told The Gazette in an email Thursday.
The structure is planned to be 20-by-30 feet and built at KANDU’s new site at 15 Plumb St. in Milton.
Hansen said KANDU has long envisioned having an outdoor pavilion, including when it was in Janesville.
“Clients will be able to go out when the weather is nice, so we are very thankful to our Rotarys,” Hansen said.
Construction of the pavilion is set to start after the grand opening, which is scheduled for Sept. 28. Rotary members will help with building picnic tables and benches to go in it.
