A Chicago-based company that runs Burger Kings in six states plans to tear down and rebuild its Burger King on Fourth Street just down the block from Beloit Memorial High School.
A site plan and conditional use permit for the project were approved in March to allow for a second drive-through lane as part of the redevelopment plan.
The Fourth Street restaurant is owned by Cave Enterprises LLC of Chicago. The company started with one restaurant in Lemont, Illinois, in 1999 and now has 179 restaurants in six states. The company also owns the Burger King at 1900 Freeman Parkway in Beloit.
According to the documents filed with the city, the Fourth Street Burger King employs 11 people and has about 350 customers daily. The company originally planned to tear down the existing restaurant and rebuild it in June and July. It hasn’t given the city an updated timeline as of yet.
Burger King was launched in 1954, a year before Ray Kroc began building his McDonalds empire. Burger King has maintained its status as the second-largest hamburger chain in the world with nearly 20,000 restaurants in nearly 100 countries.
