DNR Wraps Up Remediation at Former Janesville General Motors Site

An entry to the former General Motors property on Janesville’s south side is blocked by barriers and gates in a fall 2021 Gazette file photo as rubble and dozens of acres of concrete remain in place at the cleared auto plant. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has closed environmental review and remediation of the 115-acre parcel that is owned by St. Louis-based Commercial Development. The DNR in its decision will allow environmental closure of the site even though the owner has left in place rubble and concrete on the ground throughout the site.
